Carbon Robotics Introduces World’s First ‘Large Plant Model’

A US agri-tech company, Carbon Robotics, has launched the world’s first Large Plant Model (LPM), an AI system designed to recognize crops and weeds directly in the field. The model is trained on more than 150 million plant images, helping machines identify different plants in real time.

The technology powers the company’s robotic weed-removal machines, which use laser beams to destroy weeds while leaving crops untouched. This allows farmers to control weeds without using chemical herbicides and reduces the need for manual labour.

Unlike older agricultural AI systems that need retraining for every new weed type, the Large Plant Model can adapt quickly to new plants and field conditions. This means the same system can work across different crops and regions.

The company says the AI will continue to improve as more farm data is collected from robots working in fields around the world. Experts believe this technology could be a big step toward fully autonomous farming powered by AI and robotics.
